Healthcare professionals around the world are experiencing increasing pressures from patients, communities, governments and payers to demonstrate value. Controlling costs, providing high quality outcomes, assuring access, and enhancing patient satisfaction have become leading issues. In addition, services increasingly are provided within the context of multi-disciplinary teams and complex organizational and financial arrangements. Fiscal and other resource constraints abound. Meeting these challenges within healthcare settings requires leadership and managerial skills in addition to clinical expertise.

This program of study prepares students to function as a professional utilizing current standards of nursing practice. Six core values--critical thinking, safe and competent practice, caring, professionalism, communication and holistic care--provide the framework for organizing the nursing curriculum.

A clinical course designed to facilitate critical thinking skills and advanced competencies as the student moves from the student role to the practitioner of nursing. Concepts of leadership, accountability, delegation, discharge planning, and advocacy will be emphasized as the student adapts to the complex realities of the work arena. Professional transition is achieved by the development of a resume, preparation for an interview and job search. In a structured clinical environment, the nursing student will identify and replicate the registered nurses role in today’s health care system.
