This course examines the impact of sociological, psychological, biological, and economic theories of crime and the practice of criminal justice. Focus is upon the nature and importance of theory, context of theoretical develop­ments, methods for the critical analysis of theoretical developments, and policy implications of the varying perspectives considered. Introduction to Criminal Justice is a zero textbook cost course for the C-ID AJ110 that is licensed CC BY 4.0 except otherwise noted. It is supported by the Central/Mother Lode Regional Consortium. This course introduces students to the history and philosophy of the United States criminal justice system. It also analyzes theories of crime and crime causation in conjunction with how law is developed. Additionally, the course examines sentencing and incarceration processes. Available on Canvas Commons.
