This e-book is ideally suited for various users, including students, preceptors, or any other practicing provider interested in physical assessment and examination skills. The e-book is presented in standard narrative format and organized by body systems.

Population Health for Nurses prepares nurses to develop interventions, policies, and practices that promote health equity and improved health outcomes across the health care delivery continuum. The text emphasizes the social determinants of health and how nurses can plan and implement health promotion and disease prevention interventions. This textbook is an open educational resource with CC-BY licensing developed specifically for pre-licensure nursing students. Content is based on the St. David’s School of Nursing curriculum for the Community and Population Health Nursing course, the NCLEX-RN Test Plan, and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Education Council’s Crosswalk Toolkit: Defining and Using Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Skills in Undergraduate Nursing Education. Mental health and community health concepts are discussed while emphasizing stress management techniques, healthy coping strategies, referrals to community resources, and other preventative interventions. Nursing care for individuals with specific mental health and substance use disorders is examined, and the nurse’s role in community health needs assessments and caring for vulnerable populations is introduced.

This textbook aims to fill a gap in the equitable distribution of knowledge by providing an up-to-date, free, comprehensive community and public health textbook to help reduce the student’s costs of obtaining a nursing degree. Urban Health: A Practical Application for Clinical Based Learning is an openly licensed, peer-reviewed textbook for clinical-based nursing educators covering barriers in urban health and their impact on patient health outcomes. The authors explore perspectives of urban communities, urban patients, and urban healthcare providers to offer insight into how healthcare providers can address disparities in urban healthcare, provide meaningful care with the lived experiences of urban patients in mind, and improve patient-provider communication by moving towards a more solution-driven, team-based care approach. This online textbook was created for MO141 Patient Advocacy at Mt. Hood Community College, including sections on publicly funded and private health insurance, access to care issues, and case studies of patients in different medical scenarios and the different roles of health care providers who cared for them.

Eleven Case Studies are presented with questions for Self Assessment by student nurses. Each Case Study is preceded by an introduction of the learning objectives intended to be met by the study presented.
