Nursing

This is a transition course between the knowledge base as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to the introduction of the knowledge base of a professional Registered Nurse (RN). Prerequisite(s): Admission to the ASN program. This course is a part of a nine course curriculum for an Associate of Science in Nursing.

The Bridge Option is designed for eligible LPNs and Nationally Certified Paramedics to begin transitioning into the role of an Associate Degree Nurse. This course includes electronic simulation and facilitated instruction for validation of required nursing skills. Lecture subject areas include blending pharmacology, nursing concepts, leadership, and physical assessment. Skill proficiency is evaluated in a clinical facility as well as in the laboratory. Lecture and clinical components are combined to enhance and evaluate the level of knowledge and professionalism of the ADN nurse.

This course is designed to facilitate the transition of licensed practical nurses in becoming associate degree registered nurses. Topics include the role and competencies of the nursing student and graduate; the philosophy and conceptual framework of the nursing profession; and selected historical, ethical, and legal aspects of the nursing profession.
